Mindset Learn, a local not-for-profit organisation, in support of the Department of Basic Education, encourages parents, teachers, companies and community members to support the Grade 12 Class of 2011 by participating in a scheduled winter school initiative.
Mindset Learn on DStv channel 319 and Toptv channel 319 will broadcast special Winter School programming for Grade 12 Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Maths Literacy, Geography, Accounting and English each week day between the 4th and 15th July 2011.
The organisation has developed programming that is explicitly designed to provide exam revision support and includes; exam paper reviews, tips on how to approach questions, worked past exam papers and live phone-in sessions. All programming is supported by learner and facilitator guide books.
“Last year the whole country embarked on last minute preparations for our learners due to the unanticipated teacher’s strike. Now we want to prepare the Grade 12’s and ensure that they receive all necessary support early on”. Said Dylan Busa, Mindset Schooling Executive.
Schools, community centres, churches and libraries with DStv or Toptv connections are encouraged to organise local events and host learners during the broadcast times. Lessons will be broadcast as follows:
Mondays: Maths and Maths Literacy
Tuesdays: English and Accounting
Wednesdays: Physical Sciences
Thursdays: Mathematics and Geography
Fridays: Physical and Life Sciences
Each day, top subject experts will facilitate and explain difficult concepts with examples and highlight common exam mistakes. This will be followed by call-in opportunity where learners can ask their own questions. There are compulsory breaks after each subject for learners to unwind.
Schools, individuals and other organisations wanting to participate can contact Mindset Learn for the detailed broadcast schedule, copies of the guides or information on how to get connected to the broadcast. Call Centre: 0861 MINDSET (0861 6463738) or email:
